GT Program Goals 2009-2010
  • Primary Enrichment Program (PEP, Grades K-2): Students grades 1 and 2 will receive PEP services which include weekly classes (pull-out) with interdisciplinary-based mini themes, reflecting NJCCCS and district initiatives focusing on literacy, math, science and character education. Kindergarten students will participate in whole class enrichment activities.
  • Elementary (Grades 3-5): Using an interdisciplinary approach, students will participate in weekly (pull-out) classes. Curriculum is theme-based reflecting NJCCCS and district initiatives. This year students will embark on a worldwide adventure of cultural Connections introducing them to the many world cultures that influenced the development of our American culture. Cultural Connections will focus on the study of people from around the world and the customs and traditions they have brought with them to the United States.
  • Lakeside Middle School (Grades 6-8): Continued implementation of interdisciplinary themes per grade level, emphasizing acceleration and differentiation to maximize student potential and expand oral communication, writing, research, and technology skills through independent project development.
  • Secondary (Grades 9-12) at MHS and MSHS: Designed to meet the student's individual needs and specific interests, while providing creative, intellectual, academic and career-related activities for future success, students are encouraged to participate in college and career awareness opportunities, independent projects, mentorship experiences, community service, and academic team competitions.
  • Family-based learning experiences are encouraged at all grade levels and include family nights and Saturday field experiences.
  • GT curriculum at each level is interdisciplinary reflecting integration of NJCCCS, districts initiatives, test-taking strategies, and promoting academic rigor, challenging students to maximize their (academic/intellectual) potential for future success.
